Scorpion - remote testing of smoke detectors and aspirating smoke detection (ASD) - advance information

For inaccessible point type smoke detectors

Scorpion is a remote controlled, permanently mounted tester for testing testing point smoke detectors in places where they are hard to access, such as in elevator / lift shafts, false ceilings, at great heights, remote fan rooms, classified and secure areas (nuclear industry, defense installations) and in public places where testing would be disruptive (train station, subways, etc.).

Scorpion is activated by connecting a handheld control unit to an conveniently located access point. It supplies the system with power and the testing is controlled from the controller. Scorpion easily solves the problem of testing hard to reach detectors using conventional testing methods. It can be used on single detectors, as well as systems with thousands of detectors.

For smoke sampling systems

Scorpion can also be placed at the end of a sampling pipe and generate smoke to test aspirating smoke detection (ASD) systems. Scorpion is connected to the end of the pipework so that the smoke can be transported to the detector.

This is how Scorpion works

Up to 128 detectors can be tested within one single Scorpion network. If there are more than 128 detectors in an installation you just build more networks. The flexible "tail" of Scorpion is directed to the detectors detection chamber.

Scorpion is only powered when test is done and the Control unit is connected. It is connected at the different access points for each network. It shows information for each Scorpion unit on the network (commissioning date, and the two last tests). Each Scorpion unit is selected and powered to complete the test.
Since most of the detectors where Scorpion is used will be hidden from view, an automated monitoring of alarm activation is achieved by feedback to the Controller by means of an opto-isolated connection with the remote LED output of the point smoke detector or an alarm output from the ASD system.

At the end of the test, fan assisted clearing is also performed by Scorpion for rapid smoke clearing and detector reset.
